Sanhiti was founded in 2004 by three Bay Area Dancers:

Janani Narayanan

Janani Narayanan is a Bharatanatyam dancer. She learnt under the guidance of ‘The Kirans’ in India, where she did her arangetram. Currently she is continuing her dance education under Smt Vidhya Subramaniam at Lasya Dance Company and also teaches dance at Lasya. She has participated in Lasya’s productions and has given several performances in the bay area. Recently she participated in San Francisco Ethnic Dance festival in which Lasya was one of the featured Dance Schools. She is also a folk dancer and has performed South Indian folk dances such as Karagam at several programs.

Janani has started “Nrityakalya Folk Dance Company” in 2004 for teaching and promoting folk dances of India. Please visit www.nrityakalya.org for details bout the school.

Apart from being a dancer she is also an Artist and enjoys painting. Her paintings are influenced by thoughts and ideas from various Indian myths and dance compositions.www.oviyaa.net

Janani holds a bachelor's degree in Microbiology. Her hobbies include acting, traveling and listening to music. She acted in a south Indian play “Kaasu Mela Kaasu” that was staged by Naatak in 2002 in Bay Area, Los Angeles and Sacramento. Kaasu Mela Kaasu was her debut in acting and was appreciated

Priya Krishnamoorthy

Priya Krishnamoorthy has been learning Bharatanatyam for the past 12 years under various gurus like Smt. Indira Rajan, Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman and Smt. & Sri. Hariharan. She is continuing her Bharathanatyam training under the guidance of Smt. Mythili Kumar of the Abhinaya Dance Company. She also teaches dance to Abhinaya students. She has actively toured India and the U.S. giving performances along with her company dancers.

Apart from classical dance, Priya has also been a part of her school folk and film dance teams. She has choreographed and won many dance competitions, including first place in the dance show ‘Eena Meena Deeka’ in Raj TV. The song “Boom Boom and Dating” in the light music show ‘Thillana’ marked Priya’s choreography debut in the U.S.

Her other cultural accomplishments include participating and winning prizes in college fashion-shows and hosting a daily television program in Jaya TV. She has also acted in a few plays in the Bay Area and has starred in amateur short films.

Currently, she is learning Salsa and Hip Hop dance styles from various dance schools. She has an undergraduate degree in Electronics and also a degree in Computer Engineering from San Jose State University. She currently works for Cisco.

Roopa Parameswaran

Roopa Parameswaran has been learning Bharathanatyam from the age of 10. Having performed her arangetram in 1995, she has given numerous performances in reputed sabhas in Chennai. She recently performed in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London, UK. She is currently pursuing her training in the Tanjavur pani under the tutelage of Kalaimamani Smt. Malathi Dominic who is one of the premium disciples of the Late Guru Sri. Tanjavur Kittappa Pillai, one of the doyens of bharathanatyam in Chennai, India. A graduate in Finance from BITS, Pilani, Roopa is currently graduated with a degree in Film & Television from DeAnza Community College, Cupertino.

A theatre buff, Roopa is associated with Naatak, a Bay Area Theatre Group. She received wide appreciation for her role in the tamil play "Kaasu Mela Kaasu" staged by the group in August 2002. She essayed the role of the female lead -Kavya in Naatak's tamil production "Rahasiya Snehidiyae" staged in September 2004. She has also acted in other plays staged in the Bay Area.
